Model AKG-F 360° Full View Sight Flow Indicator

The AKG-F is a full-view, flanged sight flow indicator that provides complete 360° visibility of process media. This design ensures maximum observation of system fluid flow and condition.

Units are best suited for vertical installation. Horizontal mounting is permitted when no mechanical forces are exerted on the glass cylinder.

Standard sizes range from ½” to 12″ with ASME Class 150 flanged end connections. Standard flange materials are zinc-plated carbon steel or 316 stainless steel, with additional materials available upon request. Sight tubes are borosilicate glass as standard, and gaskets are PTFE envelope with silicone insert.

Operating Conditions

Standard units are rated for full vacuum service and the pressure ratings shown in the table below. The maximum temperature rating is 350°F (177°C), although actual limits may be lower depending on the gasket material selected.

Options and Accessories

  • Impact-resistant protective shield (optional)
  • Non-standard overall lengths (shorter or longer than standard)

Why Use Sight Flow Indicators?

These devices are simple, reliable, and cost-effective tools for process monitoring. They enable quick visual checks for:

  • Flow presence or absence (confirming a pump is running or a line is blocked).
  • Flow direction and approximate rate.
  • Fluid condition (color, clarity, foam, bubbles, or particulates).
  • Contaminants, residue, scale, or foreign matter.
  • Special conditions like steam condensate or blending uniformity in solids.

They are especially valuable in systems where automated sensors might miss subtle issues, or where regulatory compliance requires visual verification. Full-view designs excel in applications needing unrestricted observation, as they allow viewing from any angle around the pipe.

Water Treatment and Wastewater

  • Observing treatment chemicals, sludge, or effluent movement.
  • Detecting blockages, air pockets, or unusual turbidity in municipal or industrial water systems.

Oil & Gas, Marine, and Aerospace

  • Checking lubricant, fuel, or coolant lines in engines, compressors, and hydraulic systems.
  • Monitoring process fluids in harsh or high-vibration environments.

HVAC and Steam Systems

  • Confirming condensate drainage or coolant circulation in heating/cooling loops.
  • Preventing damage from water hammer or dry running.

Bulk Solids Handling (Plastics, Powders, Food Products)

  • Viewing free-flow or blending of resins, powders, or granules to prevent bridging or segregation.

General Industrial Uses

  • Troubleshooting pipelines during startups, shutdowns, or maintenance.
  • Leak or blockage detection in any fluid-handling system.
  • Visual confirmation in high-purity or vacuum applications.

Food, Beverage, and Pharmaceutical

  • Verifying ingredient flow, mixing ratios, and cleanliness in hygienic lines.
  • Ensuring no contaminants enter the product stream and confirming proper flow during CIP (clean-in-place) cycles.
  • Critical for compliance with FDA or similar standards.
